The Real Cost of Fuel: >$5.61 for the US Military

Three new (to me) things for a Friday afternoon courtesy of The Atlantic: First, the “Fully Burdened Cost of Fuel” calcuation idea seems like it could have the potential to significantly change how the military thinks about fuel use — which may have good follow-on effects for everyday people, as well.  It seems like a Nudge-like idea to me, but I should confess that I haven’t read Nudge.

Second, the US Military is the world’s largest purchaser of petroleum.  That doesn’t surprise me too much, just hadn’t thought about it.

Third, the Department of Defense has what appears to be a really interesting energy blog, that may be worth keeping up with.  Upon further investigation it seems to be some guy who is linked to the DoD that has a blog, but still.
